Welcome back to TalkCast Speaking, everyone.

欢迎大家回到 TalkCast 口语栏目。

I'm your host, Rachel.

我是你们的主持人蕾切尔。

Have you ever been in a situation where a colleague or your manager gets a big promotion at work,

你是否曾遇到过这样的情况:在工作中,一位同事或经理获得了大举晋升,

and you want to say something really nice, but you suddenly get tongue -tied?

你想说点好听的话,却突然结巴了?

You stand there, smiling awkwardly, and all that comes out is a plain, congrats.

你站在那儿,笑得很尴尬,结果脑子里只蹦出一个平淡的“恭喜”。

Sound familiar?

听起来很熟悉吧?

Oh, Rachel, you are calling me out big time.

哦,蕾切尔,你这可真是狠狠地揭穿我了。

Hi, everyone.

嗨,大家好。

I'm Ethan, a junior marketing coordinator.

我是伊森,一名初级市场协调员。

That exact thing happened to me last week.

上周我身上就发生了这件确切的事。

My team leader got promoted to senior director, and when everyone was cheering, I walked up and

我的团队组长升为了高级总监,当大家都在欢呼时,我走过去

literally said, congratulations to promote.

字面意思上直接说了句:“恭喜晋升。”

She smiled, but I knew I butchered the English.

她笑了笑,但我知道我把英语搞砸了。

I was so embarrassed.

我当时太尴尬了。

Don't beat yourself up, Ethan.

别太自责了,伊森。

That is actually one of the most common mistakes English learners make.

这其实是英语学习者最常犯的错误之一。

But you're in the right place today.

不过你今天来对地方了。

By the end of this episode, you'll know how to congratulate anyone on a promotion, whether it's a

在本期节目的最后,你将学会如何向任何人祝贺升职,无论对方是

close work buddy or your executive director with total confidence and polish.

关系亲密的工作伙伴还是你的高管总监,都能做到充满自信且得体流利。

That sounds awesome, Rachel.

听起来太棒了,蕾切尔。

I definitely need this scaffold to build up my workplace English.

我非常需要这个脚手架来建立我的职场英语。

Where do we start?

我们从哪儿开始呢?

Let's start with the absolute foundation, the word promotion.

让我们从绝对的基础——“promotion”这个词开始。

Promote is a verb, like the company promoted her.

Promote 是个动词,比如公司晋升了她。

But when you congratulate someone, you need the noun form, promotion, and the key preposition on.

但当你祝贺某人时,你需要名词形式 promotion,以及关键介词 on。

Ah, preposition on.

啊,介词 on。

So instead of congratulations to promote, I should say congratulations on your promotion? Bingo.

所以与其说 congratulations to promote,我应该说 congratulations on your promotion?宾果。

Let's say that together.

我们一起说一遍。

Congratulations on your promotion.

恭喜你升职。

The universal structure is always congratulations on plus noun or gerund.

这套通用结构永远是 congratulations on 加上名词或动名词。

You can say congratulations on your new role or congratulations on getting promoted.

你可以说 congratulations on your new 角色 或者 congratulations on getting promoted。

Oh, congratulations on your new role.

哦,恭喜你担任新角色。

That sounds supernatural and smooth.

听起来超自然且流利。

It really is.

确实是这样。

Now let's look at a companion word that makes your congratulations feel genuinely heartfelt.

现在我们来看看一个伴生词,它能让你的祝福显得发自内心。

Well deserved.

应得的。

Deserved comes from the verb deserve, meaning you earned it through hard work.

Deserved 来自动词 deserve,意思是你通过努力工作赢得的。

So when you say, this promotion is so well deserved, you are validating all their hard work.

所以当你说这句“这次晋升实至名归”时,你是在肯定他们所有的辛苦付出。

Wow, I love that.

哇,我太喜欢了。

This is so well deserved.

这真的是应得的。

Can I combine them?

我能把它们结合起来吗?

Like, congratulations on your promotion.

比如,祝贺你晋升。

It's so well deserved. Perfect.

这太实至名归了。完美。

That right there is a solid, warm, five -star sentence for any colleague.

这绝对是一句对任何同事来说都极其扎实、温暖、五星级的句子。

Now, Ethan, let's talk about another mistake I hear all the time from Chinese learners.

现在,伊森,我们来谈谈我经常从中国学习者那里听到的一处错误。

Have you ever heard someone say, wish you promotion?

你有没有听到过有人说“wish you promotion”?

Wait, isn't that correct?

等等,难道这不正确吗?

In Chinese, we often say, so isn't wish you promotion a direct translation?

在中文里我们经常这么说,所以“wish you promotion”难道不是直译吗?

It is a direct translation, and that's precisely why it's a trap.

这确实是直译,而这正是它是个陷阱的原因。

Let's use our three -step correction method.

让我们使用我们三步纠正法。

Step one, the mistake, saying wish you promotion.

第一步,错误示范,说“祝你晋升”。

Step two, the fix, wishing you all the best in your new role.

第二步,修正说法,祝你在新职位上一切顺利。

Or, congrats on the promotion.

或者,恭喜你升职。

Step three, the explanation.

第三步,解释说明。

In English, wish takes phrases like, you all the best, rather than taking a standalone noun like

在英语中,wish 后面接的是像“you all the best”这样的短语,而不是像独立名词这样的

promotion directly after you.

晋升直接跟在你后面。

Ah, I see.

啊,我明白了。

So I can say, I wish you all the best in your new role.

所以我可以说,祝你在新岗位一切顺利。

That makes so much sense now. Exactly.

这下太明白了。确实如此。

Now, Ethan, what about different tone levels?

伊森,那不同的语气级别呢?

Saying congratulations on your promotion feels good, but what if you're talking to your close work

说“恭喜你升职”感觉不错,但如果你是在和关系亲密的工作

friend at a coffee break versus sending an email to a vice president?

朋友在茶歇时聊天,对比给副总裁发邮件呢?

Oh, good question.

哦,好问题。

I guess the tone needs to change, right?

我猜语气需要改变,对吧?

How do I sound casual with my desk neighbor who just got bumped up to senior analyst?

我怎么才能对刚升为高级分析师的邻桌同事显得随意一点呢?

For a friend or close peer, keep it enthusiastic and punchy.

对于朋友或亲密的同事,保持热情和精炼。

You can use casual expressions like, way to go.

你可以用一些随意的表达,比如,干得好。

I'm so thrilled for you.

我为你感到非常激动。

Or, I knew you had it in you.

或者,我知道你是有这个能力的。

I knew you had it in you.

我知道你身上有这股劲。

I like that one.

我喜欢这个。

What does had it in you mean exactly?

“had it in you”准确是什么意思?

It means you always knew they had the talent and capability to succeed.

意思是你一直都知道他们有成功的才华和能力。

It's a huge compliment among friends.

这在朋友之间是个极大的赞美。

Another fun, casual line is, here's to your next chapter.

另一个有趣、随意的句子是,致你的下一篇章。

You can say that while grabbing lunch or bumping into them in the hallway.

你可以在吃午饭时或者在走廊偶遇他们时说这句话。

Here's to your next chapter.

致你的下个篇章。

That sounds so vibrant.

听起来真有活力。

What about a formal situation then?

那么正式的场合呢?

Say, an executive or someone you don't know very closely.

比方说,一位高管或者你不太熟悉的人。

For formal situations, like an email or a LinkedIn comment, you want to be warm yet polished.

对于正式场合,比如电子邮件或领英评论,你需要表现得热情而又优雅。

You can say, please accept my warmest congratulations on your promotion to senior director.

你可以说,请接受我对你晋升为高级总监的最热烈祝贺。

Or, I wish you continued success in your new leadership role.

或者,祝你在新的领导岗位上取得持续的成功。

I wish you continued success in your new leadership role.

祝你在新的领导岗位上取得持续的成功。

That sounds incredibly professional.

听起来非常专业。

Let me write that down in my notes.

让我把它记在笔记里。

Good idea.

好主意。

Now, here is a secret ingredient.

现在,这里有一个秘密要素。

Pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation when speaking.

说话时要注意你的发音和语调。

In English, emotion is carried through pitch changes and stress.

在英语中,情感是通过音高变化和重音来传达的。

If you say, congratulations on your promotion in a completely flat voice, you sound like a robot. Right.

如果你用完全平淡的声音说祝贺你升职,你听起来就像个机器人。对的。

It sounds like I'm being forced to say it. Exactly.

听起来像我是被迫说的一样。确实。

To sound genuine, stress key high -energy words like so, truly, or deserved.

为了听起来更真诚,要强调像 so、truly 或 deserved 这样充满能量的关键词。

Listen to the difference.

听听区别。

I am so happy for you.

我为你感到非常高兴。

Or, you truly deserve this.

或者,你真的当之无愧。

Hear how my voice leaps on so and truly? Yeah.

听到我的声音在 so 和 truly 上是怎样上扬的吗?对。

It sounds full of warmth and excitement.

听起来充满了温暖和兴奋。

Let me try.

让我试试。

You truly deserve this.

你真的当之无愧。

How was that?

刚才那个感觉如何?

That was fantastic.

那真是太棒了。

You put real energy into it.

你在这上面确实花了很多精力。

Now, let's dive into some cool workplace idioms and cultural nuances.

现在,让我们深入了解一些很酷的职场习语和文化细微差别。

Ethan, do you know any idioms related to getting promoted? Hmm.

伊森,你知道任何与获得晋升相关的习语吗?嗯。

I've heard people talk about climbing the ladder. Yes.

我听人说过攀登职业阶梯。是的。

Climbing the corporate ladder.

攀登公司晋升阶梯。

It means moving up the hierarchy in a company.

这意味着在公司里提升层级。

For instance, she's really climbing the corporate ladder fast.

比方说,她确实在公司阶梯上晋升得很快。

Another common phrase is stepping up into a new role.

另一个常见的短语是承担新的角色。

Like, he is stepping up to manage the whole department.

比如,他挺身而出管理整个部门。

Stepping up.

挺身而出。

Ah, like, congratulations on stepping up as our new team lead.

啊,比如,祝贺你挺身而出担任我们新的团队负责人。

Spot on.

恰好命中。

Now, here is a big cultural tip.

现在,这里有一个重要的文化提示。

Something to watch out for.

有什么需要注意的。

In some cultures, people might ask, oh, congratulations.

在某些文化中,人们可能会问,哦,恭喜。

Does this mean you get a big pay raise?

这意味着你得到了大幅加薪吗?

Ethan, is that okay in an English -speaking office context?

伊森,在英语国家的办公室语境下这样合适吗?

Oh, no way.

哦,没门。

Salary is a big taboo topic, right? Exactly.

薪水是个大禁忌话题,对吧?完全正确。

In Western corporate culture, asking about money or salary bumps right after a promotion is

在西方企业文化中,在晋升后立即询问金钱或薪水上涨是

considered inappropriate and intrusive.

被认为是不恰当和唐突的。

Keep the focus entirely on their achievement and hard work.

将焦点完全放在他们的成就和辛勤工作上。

Got it.

知道了。

No pay raise talk.

不谈加薪话题。

What can I say instead if I want to celebrate with them?

如果我想和他们一起庆祝,我改说些什么呢?

A great social strategy is offering to buy them a coffee or a drink.

一个很好的社交策略是主动请他们喝杯咖啡或饮料。

You can say, we definitely need to celebrate.

你可以说,我们绝对需要庆祝一下。

Let me buy you a coffee this afternoon.

今天下午我请你喝咖啡吧。

Or, drinks are on me after work.

或者,下班后酒水算我的。

It shows generosity without invading privacy.

这在不侵犯隐私的情况下展现了慷慨。

Drinks are on me.

酒水我请。

I love that phrase.

我很喜欢那个短语。

It's so friendly.

它太友好了。

Now, Ethan, let's put all of this into practice with a quick roleplay session.

现在,伊森,让我们通过一个快速的角色扮演环节将这一切付诸实践。

Are you ready?

你准备好了吗?

I'm a bit nervous, but let's do it.

我有点紧张,但我们开始吧。

脚手架正在实施中。

我就知道你行。

This is so well -deserved.

这是完全应得的。

哇,伊森。

That was amazing.

那真是太精彩了。

You used congratulations on, knew you had it in you, and well -deserved.

你用了祝贺,我知道你能行,还有实至名归。

Plus, your intonation was so upbeat.

另外,你的语调非常欢快。

Thank you.

谢谢你。

I felt so much more natural saying it this time.

这次说的时候我感觉自然多了。

让我们升级挑战。

我知道,对吧?

I feel so much more confident now.
