Well, the story features a real historical figure named Chen Yalzu, also known as Lord Kangsu.

He was a high -ranking military official and indeed an extraordinary archer.

But he was also notorious for his pride.

pole and stood nearby, watching him with a squinted, lingering gaze.

Chen Kang -su asked him, Do you also understand archery?
康肃问曰：“汝亦知射乎？
Is my skill not exquisite?
吾射不亦精乎？”
The old man replied, It is nothing special, merely a matter of practice.
翁曰：“无他，但手熟尔。”
Flared with anchor, Chen said, How dare you underestimate my archery?
康肃忿然曰：“尔安敢轻吾射！”
The old man said, I know this from my own experience of pouring oil.
翁曰：“以我酌油知之。”
With that, he placed a gourd on the ground, covered its mouth with a copper coin, and slowly ladled
乃取一葫芦置于 地，以钱覆其口，徐以杓酌油
oil into it.
沥之，
The oil dripped from his spoon directly through the coin's tiny hole, without wetting the coin itself.
自钱孔入，而钱不湿。
He then remarked, I too have no special secret, save for practice.
因曰：“我亦无他，惟手熟尔。”
Chen Kang -su smiled and sent him on his way.
康肃笑而遣之。
That was absolutely beautiful, Grace.
